Oh Christ I don't know how to begin this.
I am so disgusted and pissed off at everyone right now, I don't want to write.
I voted for the soldier.
And I wanted to kick him in the nads when he conceded to Bush. Why?
And then I heard the torrents of what Sidney Blumenthal called 'the firing-squad circle of recrimination' among liberal Dems.
And when I dared to express some optimism, and to answer despairing, rhetorical questions - ('How this could happen' is because the NeoCon machine is not only ruthless, but not always pointing out the major differences between themselves and middle America )- I got called a Nazi.
When I attempted to swallow my pride and rancor and agree with fellow Dems, I was insulted and ignored and misunderstood.
So I took my ass over to some veteran's websites.
And I quit caring about the opinions of disappointed, untried, first-time volunteers.
This is one battle. Kerry and many like him, were in 'nasty and illegal wars', like this campaign, many times before. Ain't nothing new.
And Kerry's concession began to look like the first move of a proven warrior.(thanks to Yankee Doodle from Today In Iraq for this link) _
Jo from Democratic Veteran said this today -
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/04/nyregion/04york.html>
"I want to rant, cry, vent. Maybe I will. But first I want to talk. I want to talk about how we lost. I want to begin a dialog about how we can win.
And how do these (mostly Vietnam War-era ) veterans look at the fall of their leader and the next phase of the battle?
"Leave it to a (veteran ) to stay so cool and collective in the face of imminent disaster...an abscence of whining, excuse-making, victimhood, wild conspiracy-theories here- just what I'd expect of a guy who made night traps".
Jo goes on to say-
"The republicans successfully defined us as the party that's anti-God because we don't want a theocratic state, where a woman has no choice and prayer is best left at the door of a public school classroom, not in it. They defined us as anti-Gun because we don't want to see police officers assasinated in the streets with assault weapons loaded with armor piercing ammunition. They defined us as faggot-loving liberals because we believe that everyone has a place in America.
We have been defined as people we know we're not.
...Bring someone in. I don't have all the answers, but if we begin talking perhaps we will begin the process of catharsis and discovery we need. If you have a post to put up here, I'll post it for you, or if you want a login, we'll arrange that too. We have stood on the walls, walked dark posts, stood the midwatch. We understand patience. We know sacrifice. Let's find each other and others and begin to lead.
Study. Time. Patience. Work. Let's start there, and lead our party and country again. I'm not trying to be arrogant. I'm not trying to be the HMFIC, I'm just trying not to scream and I want to start the dialog and the work to regain our country."
